THE FAMILY HISTORY
McFann and Keister Genealogy

The quest for my descendants began with some family heirlooms and a family Bible that is almost 200 years old. The family Bible belonged to Andrew Jackson McFann, my Great, Great-Grandfather, and it has been passed down through the family and is now in my possession.

The A.J.McFann Bible     The McFann Bible, published in 1829, was previously owned by Andrew Jackson McFann. McFann family history and his signature sepia-colored ink are still legible on some of the pages. The McFann Family Bible has provided important family information linking the McFann family together. Without this Bible, there is no existing birth record for either of Andrew Jackson McFann's parents, David and Mary Fleece McFann, or their children.

The inked family record entries in the McFann Bible begin with David McFann and Mary Fleece McFann, the parents of Andrew Jackson McFann. These and other family entries are penned on several pages that were originally located in the back of the family Bible.

Andrew Jackson McFann (1820-1906) and Margaret Elizabeth Brown Keister (1849-1944) were married in Greenup County, Kentucky on September 1, 1871. Together, they had 7 children, including a set of male twins.

Andrew Jackson McFann (1820-1906)

Andrew Jackson McFann was born in Ohio on February 19, 1820. He was the son of David McFann and Mary Fleece. An Ohio resident, A. J. McFann lived in Lawrence, Scioto, and Gallia Counties. He travelled on and around the Ohio River often, occasionally crossing into West Virginia and Kentucky, but his home was always in Ohio. During his lifetime, A. J. McFann was married three times, a widower twice, and was the father to 10 children.

Margaret Elizabeth Brown Keister McFann (1849-1944)

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Keister was born in Bath County, Virginia on September 11, 1849. She was the daughter of Jacob Peck Keister and Mary (Polly) Graham Lockridge. Although Lizzie was born in Virginia, her family moved into Greenup County, Kentucky, where she lived until after her marriage to A. J. McFann on September 1, 1871. Once married, Lizzie moved into Ohio.

Although A.J. was 30 years older than Lizzie, the age difference did not hinder this McFann couple. They purchased farm property along the Ohio River in Gallia County, Ohio where they raised a family and enjoyed a lengthy marriage of 37 years. After the death of A.J. McFann in 1906, Lizzie and their youngest daughter, Helena McFann, continued living at the farm in Gallia County, Ohio. Lizzie chose to remain in Ohio, at the Gallia County farm that she and A.J. built together, until her own death in 1944.

My book on McFann Family History

The McFann family history book I am authoring is well underway, but publication has been delayed. Additional McFann history has recently been obtained and I ask understanding and patience while more information is added.

This biographical book contains a wealth of factual information on the McFann family, including some documentation on the Keister family, as well. The book includes genealogy information, transcribed and photocopied land deeds, as well as many other legal documents. McFann Bible images, newspaper articles, clippings, and family documentation included in this book as they are invaluable for those who are interested in McFann family history.

To receive a notice on the publication schedule and purchase information, please email me.
