Augusta County, Virginia

Augusta County began as an area that was settled primarily by the Scots-Irish in the 1730s. Augusta County was formed from Orange County in 1738, although no official Court was held until 1745.

In the 1770s, new boundary lines became effective, and new counties and territorial areas were created. Yohogania, Ohio, and Monongalia Counties were formed directly from Augusta County. Other counties were also created in the 1770s: Fluvanna, Powhatan, Fincastle, Kentucky, Montgomery, and Washington. By the 1790s, additional counties were created, including Pendleton, Randolph, Nottaway, Bath, and Wythe.
